Shakti Gauchan

Mr. Shaki Gauchan is a national level cricket player in Nepal. He was in Nepal's cricket team that competed in Pepsi ICC World Cricket League Division 5 tournament.

Mr. Gauchan was born in Rupandehi in 1984. He first represented his country at Under-17 level in February 2001 when he played in the ACC Under-17 Asia Cup in Bangladesh. He played in the Under-19 World Cup in New Zealand the following year, also making his debut for the senior side in that year's ACC Trophy.

He spent the next two years in the Under-19 side, playing on a tour of India and the Youth Asia Cup in Pakistan in 2003, and the Under-19 World Cup in Bangladesh in 2004. He returned to the senior side in March 2004 when he made his first-class debut in the 2004 ICC Intercontinental Cup against the UAE, also playing against Malaysia in the same tournament.

He also played in the ACC Trophy and in ACC Fast Track Countries Tournament matches against Singapore, the UAE and Hong Kong in 2004 and in 2005 he played in the repĂȘchage tournament of the 2005 ICC Trophy,[5] in which Nepal finished third after beating Qatar in a play-off. He also played ACC Fast Track Nations matches against Singapore, Malaysia, the UAE and Hong Kong. The games against the UAE and Hong Kong also counted towards the 2005 ICC Intercontinental Cup and are his last first-class matches to date.

In 2006, he played in a play-off match against Namibia to decide the final spot in the 2006 ICC Intercontinental Cup. Needing an outright win to qualify, Nepal could only secure a draw after there was no play on the first day. Later in the year he played on a tour of Pakistan with Nepal in addition to playing in the ACC Trophy and ACC Premier League. He most recently represented his country at the 2007 ACC Twenty20 Cup.

Michael Vinding

Dr. Michael Vinding is a Danish anthropologist and a diplomat. He has done an extensive study of Thakalis and written a book, The Thakali: A Himalayan Ethnography (1998).

Mark Turin

Dr. Mark Turin was trained in Social Anthropology at the University of Cambridge. He is a specialist in languages spoken in the Himalayan region. He currently directs the Digital Himalaya Project and the recently established World Oral Literature Project.

In 1997 he wrote a paper on Thakali language entitled, Too many stars and not enough sky: language and ethnicity among the Thakali of Nepal.

William Fisher

Professor William Fisher is a Research Professor at the George Perkins Marsh Institute of Clark University (USA).

From 1992 to 2000, he taught in the Department of Anthropology at Harvard University, and before that, at Columbia where finished his PhD in anthropology.

He has published a book on Thakalis, Fluid Boundaries: Forming and Transforming Thakali Identity in Nepal (2001), which was based on his PhD dissertation.

Andrew Manzardo

Dr. Andrew Manzardo holds a doctorate in cultural anthropology from the University of Wisconsin and a Masters in Communications from the University of Pennsylvania. He carried out fieldwork in Nepal and has spent nearly thirty years working in participatory development projects there for GTZ, USAID and the UN system. He taught Development Anthropology for two years at Tribhuvan University in Kathmandu.

Dr. Manzardo has also worked in Africa and the Middle East where he worked with participatory resource management in Mauritania, Somalia and the Syrian Arab Republic. He returned once again to Nepal, India and Pakistan, where he worked developing water user associations for the irrigation projects of the World Bank, as well as for others. He also worked with water user associations with USAID, technical assistant for World Bank projects in Romania, as well as for natural resource management projects in the Philippines.

Dr. Manzardo is currently working as a consultant to the World Bank in the People’s Republic China on a DFID – funded project to develop water user associations as a means of managing irrigation. He is particularly concerned in increasing the participation of women and the poor in water management activities. The project currently operates in seven provinces, but the GOC will be adding an additional seven provinces in the coming year.

Dr. Manzardo has focused on the human aspects of irrigation management, in the formation, organization, training and strengthening of WUAs. His background and training has focused much of his work on developing appropriate communications tools for fostering the active participation of stakeholders in successfully managing their own resources.

Dr. Kishor Sherchan is an agronomist.

Dr. Pradeep Tulachan is a specialist in agriculture economics. He finished his PhD from Cornell University (USA).

Romy Gauchan

Mr. Romy Gauchan is a political leader affiliated with Nepali Congress. He was elected to Nepal's Parliament in the May 1999 snap election

Om B Gauchan

Late Om Bikas Gauchan was a political leader affiliated with UML. In the first election following the end of Panchayat system in May 1991 he won a seat in Nepal's Parliament from Mustang by defeating former Rastriya Panchayat member and former Assistant Minister Nar Bahadur Hirachan of (RPP-Chand) and Ananda Sherchan (NC).

Rudra P Sherchan

Mr. Rudra Prasad Sherchan was a political leader during Panchayat era. He was elected to Ratriya Panchayat from Mustang district in May 1986 election. He defeated the son-in-law of King of Mustang by just 41 votest. Prior to his election he was the chairman of Mustang District Panchayat.

Yogendra M Sherchan

Late Yogendra Man Sherchan was a political leader affiliated with Nepali Congress. In the first multiparty election in February 12, 1959 he won a seat from Mustang district defeating his first cousin Lalit Man Sherchan who ran as an independent. He was an Assistant Minister in BP Koirala's government. He was imprisioned with BP Koirala in Sundarijal for 8 years following the Royal coup in December 1960.

Jagat Gauchan

Mr. Jagat Gauchan is a political leader and a businessman. He is affiliated with Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Pashupati (RRP-P). During the Royal regime, he was an Assistant Minister of Physical Planning and Works.

He owns Kundalini Health Resort, a fitness club, in Kathmandu.

Sushil M Sherchan

Mr. Sushil Man Sherchan is a political leader affiliated with Nepali Congress (NC). He was elected to Nepal's Parliament in November 1994's mid-term election. He became Assistant Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation in December 1997 when Surya Bahadur Thapa headed a coalition government of RPP (Thapa), NC and Nepal Sadvavana Party. In a snap election in May 1999, he did not get the NC ticket, which instead went to Mr. Romy Gauchan, who won.

In the April 2008 election for the Constituent Assembly, he ran in Mustang under NC banner but lost the election to Chandra Bahadur Gurung of UML.

Krishna Bhattachan

Dr. Krishna Bhattachan is a Professor of Sociology and Anthropology at Tribhuvan University. He holds doctoral degree in Sociology from University of California, Berkeley (USA). He is an expert on issues related to Nepal's indigenous people.

He is on the expert panel of Centre for Constitutional Dialogue (CCD).

Som P Gauchan

Mr. Som Prasad Gauchan is a founding partner of Everest Tea Estate, which he started in 1995. Mr. Gauchan taught Political Science at Tribhuvan University Kathmandu Nepal for over 25 years prior to his involvement in tea business.

Besides being involved in social work on a various level, he is also sought after advisor on national political arena. Currently, he is involved in writing the constitution of Nepal, as the new era of political development is taking place at the moment.

Mr. Gauchan was also a Director of N.D.S ( National Developmental Service), 1987-89, a firm which oversees development projects all over Nepal and assists the post graduate students with those projects and is affiliated with the University.

Ganesh Sherchan

Mr. Ganesh Sherchan is the general secretary and organizational department chief in the Rastriya Prajatantra Party Nepal (RPP-N). Born in 1944 in Pokhara, Kaski, Mr. Sherchan has been involved in politics since his student life. Mr. Sherchan was student union's chairman for two years in Prithvi Narayan Campus. He later became the chief of Kaski Nagarpanchayat for nine years. He became a member of the Rastriya Panchayat in 1981. Mr. Sherchan is also a former assistant Communication Minister.

Mr. Sherchan was involved in journalism as a publisher and editor for a long period and a member of Press Council. He worked as a special advisor to then Prime Minister Lokendra Bahadur Chand. A Central Committee member of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) in 1990, Mr. Sherchan had also worked as a spokesperson for RPP led by Rajeshwor Devkota. In 2004 Mr. Sherchan became the regional administrator of Far-western region during the Royal regime.

Deepak M Sherchan

Mr. Deepak Man Sherchan is a well-known architect in Nepal.

He and his architech wife were profiled in a NepaliTimes article in December 2001.

Min B Sherchan

Min Bahadur Sherchan is the oldest person to climb Mount Everest. He officially replaced Japanese climber Yuichiro Miura in the Guinness Book of World Records as the oldest person to climb the highest mountain in the world at the age of 76 years 340 days.

Mr. Sherchan was born on 20 June 1931 reached the summit of Mount Everest on 25 May 2008.

Amik Sherchan

Mr. Amik Sherchan is a political leader affiliated with United CPN (Maoist). He is a member of the party's Standing Committee. Prior to joining CPN (Maoist) in January 2009 he was a leader of Janamorcha Nepal. He was elected to the Constituency Assembly in April 2008 from Chitwan.

He served as the deputy-Prime Minister and Minister for Health and Population from June 11, 2006 until July 23, 2008 in the interim government made up of seven party alliance (SPA) under Girija P Koirala.

Bhupi Sherchan

Bhupi Sherchan (Bhupendra Man Sherchan) is one of the most popular poets in Nepal.

He was born in 1993 BS and died in 2046 BS. His famous works include, Ghumne Mech Mathi Andho Manche, Sahid Ko Samjhana, Main Batti Ko Sikha, Ghantaghar, Hami, etc.

Bhupi Sherchan was the first free style poet in Nepali literature. He has analyzed humans and human life in different ways but his biggest contribution to Nepalese society is that he has tried to show the way to the new generation through his numerous poems. He was a fierce nationalist and loved his country and countrymen above all else. His down to earth rationalism can be seen in his classic poem "Hami" where he claimed that we Nepalese are brave but foolish and because we are brave we are foolish. His intense love for the nation and the goodwill of the nation can be seen in his odes to the martyrs of Nepal. Bhupi Sherchan was awarded the Sajha Puraskar in 2026 B.S.
